Custom-made safety glass for various strength classes and sizes
Not every resistance class is available in every size. The available sizes depend, among other things, on the desired level of protection and the design requirements of the project. The following overview provides an initial insight into the possible combinations of security class and glass size.
Formats & Resistance Classes
Security Requirement | Resistance Classes | Maximum Glass Sizes* |
Burglary resistance | P6B – P8B | up to 2,500 × 8,000 mm |
Bullet resistance | BR1–BR3 | up to 2,500 × 5,000 mm |
Bullet resistance | BR4 – BR6 | up to 2,000 × 4,000 mm |
Bullet resistance | BR7 | upon request |
Bullet resistance | SG1 - SG2 | up to 1,000 × 2,200 mm |
Explosion resistance | ER2 - ER4 | up to 2,000 × 3,000 mm |

Safety glass that blends in with the architecture
Custom-made safety glass makes it possible to combine high safety requirements with individual architectural specifications. While standard solutions often require compromises in design, transparency, or functionality, custom-made safety glass is tailored precisely to the specific project.
For example, historic muntin windows can be faithfully reproduced—as shown in the first image—to visually preserve existing facades or buildings designated as historic landmarks. At the same time, modern safety requirements for burglary resistance, bullet resistance, or blast resistance can be integrated without altering the building’s distinctive architecture. Custom-made safety glazing also opens up additional design possibilities for new construction. Large-format glass surfaces and glass corners (as shown in the second image), floor-to-ceiling windows, or floor-to-ceiling sliding elements can be planned in such a way that safety, transparency, and comfort are combined. The goal is not to adapt the architecture to the safety glass—but to adapt the safety glass to the architecture.

Safety glass for projects of any size—our custom-made solutions
From individual windows to complete safety glazing for entire buildings: SILATEC develops custom safety glass for projects of all sizes. Each glazing system is individually designed, manufactured, and tailored to the requirements of the specific property.
Custom Manufacturing
For individual windows, unique window shapes, or complex renovation projects, SILATEC develops custom-made safety glazing. Historic muntin windows, special coatings, or custom functional glass can often be integrated into the design as well.
Multiple Glass Panels
Large window facades, panoramic glazing, or lift-and-slide elements require coordinated planning across multiple glazing elements. This results in safety solutions that combine protection, transparency, and living comfort.
Complete Building Glazing
From museums and jewelry stores to high-end villas: SILATEC implements comprehensive safety concepts for the building envelope. From planning and safety-related design through manufacturing to installation, we provide end-to-end safety glazing solutions from a single source.

Custom-Made Large Formats - Safety Glass for Large Glass Surfaces
Large-format safety glazing opens up new possibilities for architecture, transparency, and protection. Whether floor-to-ceiling windows, large-scale lift-and-slide systems, storefronts, facade glazing, or glass roofs—SILATEC develops custom safety glass for demanding projects with high design and safety requirements. Weight plays a particularly crucial role in large-scale lift-and-slide systems. Thanks to special glass assemblies that are comparatively lightweight, many elements can be operated comfortably in everyday use despite high safety requirements. At the same time, large-format safety glazing ensures clear views, bright rooms, and a sense of open space.
From exclusive villas and prestigious corporate buildings to museums and high-end storefront displays, we create safety solutions that combine protection with architecture—individually designed, manufactured, and installed by SILATEC.

Case Studies – Custom Safety Glass in Practice
Every project has different requirements in terms of safety, architecture, and use. The following examples show how safety glass can be custom-designed and installed to meet specific needs.

Security Glazing for a Luxury Villa
Large-scale safety glazing protects the building envelope without compromising the open architecture or the view to the outside. Custom-designed solutions create a harmonious balance between safety, design, and living comfort.

Large-format storefront glazing
We manufacture security glazing with high transparency and large dimensions for jewelry stores, exclusive retail spaces, and prestigious buildings. This allows merchandise and spaces to be showcased optimally without compromising on security.

Floor-to-ceiling burglar-resistant windows
Floor-to-ceiling glazing and large sliding panels provide plenty of natural light and a sense of openness. Custom-made safety glass protects particularly vulnerable openings while blending unobtrusively into the architecture.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Safety Glass
Note:
The following FAQs address general questions about safety glass, sizes, and strength classes, as well as our services. However, specific questions regarding safety glass are often complex and require more detailed explanations, as requirements can vary significantly depending on the application. For a customized assessment of safety glass and its applications , we therefore recommend a personal safety consultation.
What is the difference between custom-made safety glass and standard solutions?
Standard glazing is designed for specific sizes and applications. Custom safety glass, on the other hand, is individually designed, manufactured, and engineered to meet specific safety requirements. This allows for the architecture, intended use, desired level of protection, and additional functions to be taken into account as early as the planning phase.
Can safety glass be retrofitted into existing buildings?
Yes. Safety glass can often be integrated into existing window and facade systems. Particularly in the case of high-end residential buildings, historic buildings, or buildings with distinctive window shapes, customized safety solutions can be developed without significantly altering the original architecture.
What safety features can be integrated into glazing?
In addition to burglary resistance, security glazing can be equipped with additional features depending on the project. These include, for example, UV protection options to safeguard valuable furnishings or works of art, as well as integrated alarm technology that detects and reports tampering attempts at an early stage.
How do I determine the right security solution for my building?
The selection is based on the specific requirements of the project. Factors such as building type, use, location, potential threat scenarios, and architectural specifications are taken into account. SILATEC advises customers as early as the planning phase and assists them in selecting a suitable security solution.
Is it possible to install large-format safety glass?
Yes. Safety glass can also be manufactured for large window surfaces, building facades, storefronts, glass roofs, and lift-and-slide systems. The available sizes depend on the technical requirements and the desired level of protection.
Can large lift-and-slide units be operated easily even when they are made of safety glass?
Modern safety glazing can be designed so that even large-scale lift-and-slide units can be used comfortably in everyday life. Special glass structures and customized design of the entire unit help to combine ease of use with safety.
Can historic windows or lattice windows be fitted with safety glass?
In many cases, yes. Safety glass can be custom-fitted to existing window shapes. This often makes it possible to preserve historic window divisions, muntin windows, or special architectural features while meeting modern safety requirements.
Is safety glass custom-made for each project?
Yes. Each safety glass installation is individually designed and manufactured to meet the specific requirements of the project and is installed on-site by us. Dimensions, functions, safety requirements, and structural conditions are all coordinated accordingly.
Are the development and manufacturing carried out in Germany?
Yes. Development, planning, manufacturing, and quality control are all carried out at SILATEC in Germany. By handling our own research and development, production, and quality control, we can closely monitor projects and tailor security solutions to the specific requirements of our customers and their facilities.
Does SILATEC also handle installation and acceptance testing?
Upon request, SILATEC provides support for projects from the initial consultation through planning and manufacturing to installation. After installation, the safety glazing undergoes a professional on-site inspection, ensuring that all services can be coordinated by a single provider.
